PURPOSE

You need to know how to check for Windows update on your computer.

PROCESS

1. Click the Action Center icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen.

2. Select “All settings” in the popup menu. You may need to click “Expand” to see “All settings”.
   • 
3. Click “Update & Security”.
   • 
4. Select “Check online for updates from Microsoft Update”.
   • 
5. Please wait while your computer is scanning for updates. You can still work on your machine while it is looking.
6. If an update is found, it will either start downloading and installing the update or it will wait for you to choose to download and install the update (see image below).
   • 
7. Let your computer download and install all updates. Restart your computer when prompted.
8. After your computer restarts, repeat steps 1-7 until there are no more pending updates.
   • NOTE: You may see the following error message below. 
   • Some updates are managed by a central update server within MCW. 
   • The error message is essentially the same as your computer being up to date. 
   • Also, it is always a good idea to restart your computer before and after checking for updates.
