Troubleshoot Kiosk bill dispenser errors
PURPOSE The most common issues with the bill dispenser are having to restore default bill size values to the unit itself via special software to connect directly to the dispenser. It’s not a very common occurrence but the bill dispensers are covered in many sensors for security purposes and tripping some of these sensors can lead to the bill dispenser losing its bill values. Additionally, depending on the quality of bills being used to dispense, over time the dispenser adjusts its own values to account for less than crisp bills coming through it. Therefore, if enough wrinkled/crumpled bills are dispensed over a long enough period of time, the values will need to be reset. NOTE: While you are doing any testing or value resets on the bill dispenser, ensure that the dispenser is pushed back into the kiosk (it sits on sliding rails). Also ensure that the kiosk door is closed so that the daylight sensors are not triggered. This will give you an error when trying to write the values. PROCESS Restore Default Values Close the kiosk software by double tapping the upper left, then double tapping the upper right corner of the screen in quick succession and entering service code: 0808. Once on the desktop, there should be an icon on the desktop named ‘Bill Dispenser Test’ NOTE: It may also be named ‘Test Point’ as that is the actual software name. If it is not located on the desktop for some reason, you will find it in c:\Pegasus Software When the software is open, the default selected unit is F-50, we want to drop that down and select F-53. Hitting ‘OK’ will try to connect to the unit with the last successful configuration and should bring you into the main menu. If hitting okay gives you a communication error, see the section on Communication Error below. Select ‘Mechanism Settings’ up at the top. It will bring you to a box where ‘Position 1’ and ‘Position 2’ should have values (provided both cassettes are in the dispenser). If these values are all 0, then the values have been reset by the dispenser itself. Hit ‘Default Settings’. NOTE: If you see the long, short, and thickness values change, that’s a sign that a large number of bills being dispensed by this unit were crinkled or ripped. Hit ‘Write Settings’. If you get ‘Parameters written successfully’, you are done. Close out of Test Point and re-open the kiosk software. If you get a mechanical error, continue to the Hardware Troubleshooting section. Hardware Troubleshooting If the you are getting a mechanical error when trying to write values Check the right side of the bill dispenser by pulling the dispenser forward as it sits on rails. Looking on the right side next to the data and power connectors (highlighted with a blue box) you will see the LED panel (highlighted with a red box). See if that LED display is showing the letter F or a number that is not 0. In the test point software, connect and click ‘Start a test’. Click on ‘Dispense’, put a 0 in both positions and click ‘Start Test’. Then do the same thing with ‘Test Dispense’ right beneath dispense in the test menu. Remove and reconnect the data and power cables (highlighted in blue in above picture) Be sure to push the bill dispenser back into the unit. WARNING: If too much light hits the sensors, it will fail to write parameters. Close and re-open ‘Test Point’ and reconnect to the dispenser Go back to ‘Mechanism Settings’ and click on ‘Default Value’ and then ‘Write Settings’. It should now write parameters successfully, if it doesn't, try these steps again up to three times. NOTE: These are the error clearing steps as provided by Fujitsu. Consistent Bill Jams Pull the unit out on the rails and look at the belts running along the top of the unit. Try and look here for any misalignment. If the issue is belt misalignment, this top part will often look fine, but be where the bills are jamming. The bills may also jam on the back. If the top looks fine, you’re going to need to remove the power and data cables on the right side and then pull the bill dispenser fully out of the unit to examine the back belts. To do so you need to pull out the bill dispenser on the rails as much as it goes and then look on the side of the rails. You will see a small curved piece of black plastic on either side (Highlighted below with a red box below). Remove the unit using the black clips. One side will push up, the other will push down and then pull forward to remove the unit. Examine the belts in the back of the unit, checking along the entire thing for misalignment. In most cases, this is where the misalignment will be. This, which is rare, is almost always caught during installation testing on site. If you find the belt misaligned from dead center anywhere, very carefully re-align the belt and then reconnect the dispenser by sliding the unit back onto the rails. Re-connecting the power and data, then pushing it all the way back into the kiosk. Re-open Test Point and click ‘Start a Test’. Click ‘Dispense’ NOTE: Only do this when there is an employee physically at the unit troubleshooting with you as this next step is going to dispense actual cash. Put same number of bills in each cassette position (recommended 2 or 3 of each bill type) and click ‘Start Test’. Confirm the bills are coming out smoothly. If they are not and you are absolutely certain the belts are aligned correctly, the unit must be replaced. If a certain denomination is not dispensing For this issue, we need to inspect the bill cassettes. Remove the cassette by hitting the small green square on the lower right on the front face of the cassette. This will release it and you then pull it straight out. Look at the top of the cassette and you will see at the top of it that there are 4 letters A,B,C, and D. (Highlighted with a red box below) Ensure that you see the magnets placed in position A and position D for every cassette. Magnets in any other position may cause intermittent issues with the bill dispenser. If they are in the wrong position, open the lid of the bill dispenser and remove the two screws holding the metal plate in. Then move the magnets to A and D (highlighted with a red box below). Communication Error Check the power and data connections on the end of the bill dispenser, They are found on the right panel accessible by sliding the bill dispenser out on its rails. Ensure these wires are both plugged in correctly, and if so, unplug both and plug them back in. Make sure the LED display is showing the number 0. Check and confirm the connections to the HUB 56 board on the left side of the Pegasus unit Power highlighted with a red box below. Data connection highlighted with blue. Confirm that the bill dispenser is plugged into the right COM port. They are numbered in black on the picture above. NOTE The bill dispenser software can only read ports 1-8. Since the bill dispenser is on 8, you can remove 7 temporarily (this is the bill acceptor) and try it there. Then on 6 to confirm 100% it is not a com port issue. Confirm that the power is connected to one of the 10-pin connectors (the ones around the red box). If you’re not seeing a 0 or some letter/number coming on the LED display, next we will check the wire ends themselves. Unplug the power and data wire on the end of the dispenser itself. Inspect both of the connector ends’ individual wires to confirm none of them have somehow become severed. If you have 2 full kiosks, it is recommended to place the nonfunctioning one into the functioning kiosk and testing. If you get power and connection, the unit is good and chances are that one of the cables is bad. If still not working, the unit needs to be replaced. Troubleshoot Kiosk bill dispenser jam
PURPOSE Bills are consistently jamming in the kiosk bill dispenser. PROCESS Pull the bill dispenser out on its rails and inspect the belt running along the top of the unit. The belt should be aligned as shown. If any part of the belt is misaligned from the dead center, very carefully realign the belt. Regardless of whether you found belt misalignment on the top of the bill dispenser, you will need to proceed to check the back of the unit You will need to remove the bill dispenser from the kiosk in order to check for belt misalignment on the back of the unit. First, disconnect the data and power cables from the right side of the bill dispenser. Pull the bill dispenser out to the end of its rails. There will be a curved black plastic clip on each rail. Push the clips to disengage the bill dispenser from the rails. You can now pull the bill dispenser forward to remove it from the rails. Examine the belt in the back of the unit for misalignment. Most cases of misaligned bill dispenser belts will involve the back of the unit. If any part of the belt is misaligned from dead center, very carefully realign the belt and proceed below. If you do not see any belt misalignment on the back of the unit, skip to the end of this article. With the belt realigned, slide the bill dispenser back on its rails and reconnect it to the rails using the black plastic clips. Reconnect the data and power cables on the right side of the unit, then push the bill dispenser all the way back into the kiosk. Double-tap the top right and top left corners to bring up the admin code prompt and close the software. Open the Test Point software and select “Start a Test”. Select “Dispense”. NOTE: This step involves dispensing actual bills, so make sure to have a team member physically present with you before you continue. Put an equivalent number of bills in each cassette (2 or 3 in each cassette is recommended) and select “Start a Test”. Confirm bills are dispensing smoothly. If you did not detect any belt misalignment on the back of the bill dispenser or if bills do not dispense smoothly after completing the steps, you may have a faulty bill dispenser. Troubleshoot Kiosk bill dispenser functionality
PURPOSE The kiosk bill dispenser is not dispensing bills. The bill dispenser’s default bill settings have been altered due to too many wrinkled, crumpled, or ripped bills passing through the dispenser. The bill dispenser’s security sensors have been tripped (possibly by exposing the sensors to sunlight or someone striking or jostling the dispenser/kiosk), causing the dispenser to lose its default bill settings. There is a mechanical error with the bill dispenser. PROCESS Restoring Default Bill Dispenser Locate the bill dispenser’s reject tray. Pull the reject tray out of the dispenser and remove any wrinkled or crumpled bills. Be sure to deposit these bills. Slide the reject tray back into the bill dispenser and make sure the $1 and $5 bill cassettes are inserted into the dispenser. Slide the bill dispenser back into the kiosk. NOTE: Before proceeding to test/reset bill dispenser settings, make sure the dispenser is pushed back into the kiosk on its sliding rails and the kiosk door is closed. Doing so will prevent the daylight sensors from triggering and giving you errors when trying to write sensor values. Swipe your card to access the kiosk’s desktop. From the desktop, double-click “Bill Dispenser Test” (the icon may also be named “Test Point”). If the icon is not located on the desktop, you will find it in c:\Pegasus Software. When the software opens, you will be prompted to select a mechanism. The default mechanism selected will be F-50. Use the dropdown to change the mechanism to F-53 and click “OK”. The software will try to connect the bill dispenser to its last successful configuration. If it does, you will be brought to the main menu. If you see a connection error instead, refer to “Connection Error Troubleshooting” below. From the main Test Point menu, select “Mechanism Settings” (it is the topmost selection). The Mechanical Settings interface appears. Assuming both cassettes are inserted in the bill dispenser, there should be values listed for “Position 1” and “Position 2”. If the values are all 0, they have been reset by the bill dispenser. Select “Default Settings”. If the Long, Short, and Thickness values change, a large number of wrinkled, crumpled, or ripped bills have been dispensed from the kiosk. Select “Write Settings”. You should see a popup that states, “Parameters were written successfully”. Click “OK” to close the popup, then exit out of the Test Point software and reopen the kiosk software. The bill dispenser should now work correctly. If it does not, proceed to “Hardware Troubleshooting” below. Connection Error Troubleshooting If you get a connection error when the Test Point software is trying to connect with the bill dispenser: Pull the dispenser out on its rails and inspect its right side. Locate the data and power cords and the LED display. The data and power cords should be securely connected. If necessary, unplug the data and power cords and plug them back in. The LED should display 0 (the letter F or any number other than 0 indicates a problem) Inspect the Hub 56 board on the left side of the kiosk. Make sure the power cord (red box) and data cable (purple box) are both connected. Check the LED on the right side of the bill dispenser to see if it is displaying 0. If it is not, check to Unplug the bill acceptor data cable from COM port 7 and plug the bill dispenser data cable into COM port 7. Next, plug the bill dispenser data cable into COM port 6 NOTE: The bill dispenser software cannot read COM ports 9, 10, and 11, so do not plug the data cable into those ports Don’t forget to plug the bill acceptor data cable back into COM port 7 and the bill dispenser data cable back into COM port 8. If the LED display does not change to 0 while changing COM ports, proceed to check the wire ends. Unplug the data and power cables from the right side of the bill dispenser. Inspect the individual wires of the connection ends to see if any of them have somehow been cut. Assuming you do not find any cut wires, plug the cables back in to the dispenser. After following the above steps, attempt to have Test Point connect to the bill dispenser again. If you still receive a connection error, contact Mister IT Hardware Troubleshooting If writing default bill dispenser settings does not restore bill dispenser functionality: Access the bill dispenser test software following the steps outlined above in “Restoring Default Bill Dispenser Settings”. Select “Start a Test”. Select “Dispense”, set both positions to 0, and select “Start Test”. Repeat the process for “Test Dispense” (immediately below “Dispense”). Unplug and plug back in the data and power cords. Close and reopen the Test Point software, being sure to protect the dispenser from exposure to sunlight. Repeat “Restoring Default Bill Dispenser Settings” from above. The bill dispenser should write settings successfully. It if does not, repeat the process outlined above up to three times. If kiosk bill dispenser functionality is not restored after completing the steps, contact Mister IT HISTORY Revised Date Revised By Revisions Unknown Micrologic Created Document 7/18/2024 Andrew Poskey Moved to Fresh 3/14/2025 Andrew Poskey Updated title and content formatting

Troubleshoot Kiosk bill acceptor functionality
PURPOSE The bill acceptor will not work if the bill acceptor cartridge is not properly connected to the kiosk. The Bill Acceptor will not accept any bills. PROCESS Open the door of the kiosk. NOTE: Opening the kiosk door may expose the bill dispenser to sunlight, which can trip its sensors and cause the bill dispenser to stop working. If this happens, refer to the instructions in BILL DISPENSER - HOW TO RESTORE FUNCTIONALITY The bill acceptor cartridge has a yellow handle and sits directly above the bill acceptor. Firmly and gently pull it out of the unit. With the cartridge removed, look for two small metal contacts on top of the bill acceptor. These contacts allow the kiosk to detect the presence of the bill acceptor cartridge. The contacts should be raised up as shown in the picture below. If they are bent down, use your finger to gently bend them back up. Insert the bill acceptor cartridge into the kiosk and push it in until the cartridge locks and you hear a series of sounds as the unit initializes. You will need to use firm, gentle force to properly insert the bill acceptor cartridge. Make sure the kiosk software is loaded and check that the two green lights on the bill are lit as in the picture below. These lights indicate the bill acceptor is working properly.
